Hola mi amor! What are you doing on the southern side of the equator?

La Mitad del Mundo

Yesterday we arrived and got familiarized with our surroundings. Today we saw El Panecillo and Monumento de la Virgen de Quito, which from a distance, looks like a flying monkey from the Wizard of Oz.

Virgen de El Panecillo

Don’t tell, I think they’d be offended. Then on to the TeleferiQo and Mitad del Mundo, seen below.

The money shot – Me at Mitad del Mundo

Today could be characterized by envisioning a Ecuadorian Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Our first taxi crapped out at the first stop sign, and once we got to Mitad del Mundo via autobus, it took a couple attempts and bus changes to get back. Thanks be to God for the Catholics and their imposing cathedrals… we made it back home using our eyes and the landmarks to guide us. Now happily at cena (dinner) with live Spanish guitar and a very curious-about-us waiter.

Mañana, to the Quilotoa area.
