We were not exactly sure where we were off to today, but after all of the concrete jungles and unexpected May heat, we thought we wanted a couple days of down time near the beach. Last night the leading contenders were Nin and Pag. Browsing our options on Booking though left me wanting something more. I don’t know how I thought of it, but when we had talked to the woman at the tourist information office in Dubrovnik, she had recommended Primosten as a laid back spot to relax and recharge.
We asked our hostess in Skradin what she liked best and she said Primosten. We liked our lodging options on Booking, and now we just needed to figure out how to get there. It’s backtracking a bit for us, taking us back towards Split and Trogir a bit, and further from Zagreb, where we need to be on Thursday. Also, our bus options were a bit limited in Skradin, and to get to Primosten we’d need to switch buses.
Not exactly sure why we didn’t think of it before, but everyone around the world Ubers now it seems. So, for about $40 we Ubered from Skradin to Primosten. It felt like a lot of money compared to a bus fare, but for about the same cost as getting us to the airport back home, and way cheaper than the 125€ it took to get us from Kalambaka Greece to Delphi back in 2013.
We arrived at about 10:15, checked in to our so very cute room with amazing natural light, slathered on the sunscreen and headed to the beach. We very much liked the looks of this place, and we’ve already arranged to stay here tomorrow as well.
The beach and sun here are ridiculously hot; there will be another European sunscreen purchase in our future. We talked to our hostess and she made it sound like it’s unusually hot here for May. I hope so otherwise, I don’t know how the people wouldn’t absolutely melt come July. At least now we have the cool water and sea breezes.
We had our usual picnic lunch from the Konzum grocery store and read on the beach and played in the water all day. Fearing a sunburn despite the sunscreen, I ambled to the more populated area of the beach to find the fellow who rents umbrellas. For about $4, I rented shade for the remainder of the day. Not too shabby.
Now at a restaurant on the water, we are freshly showered and enjoying a glass of wine. Someday we’ll master the art of taking a European shower without getting the floor all wet. That day was not today.
