Donkey crossing. It should say goat crossing.

1000 Steps

We decided to try to make our way to 1000 Steps today. Google maps said it was about 4 or 5 miles from our house here, and the local Dutch people thought we were nuts for trying to attempt it on push bikes. It’s far and windy they said. It was windy, but we set out early and it didn’t seem more than 3 miles in my estimation. We arrived at about 10:30 am, walked through the cruise ship throng, and ventured down the 70 steps or so to the beach. We set up our shade tent and proceeded to snorkel the day away.

I managed to see two octopuses, several sea turtles, and lots of little eels amongst all of the fishes. Nathan saw them all too, minus the octopus, so he is extremely envious.

At around 3:30, we packed it all in for the against-the-wind ride home. It wasn’t so bad, and we made it to town without too much delay. Of course, we did have to be mindful of the wild goats crossing the road. Picked up an early dinner and ate like senior citizens (pre 5 pm) on our terrace.

At 6:30 we had a date for night snorkeling with a guide. We saw a sleeping turtle, an octopus in his home, bioluminescent something in the water, a Tarpon eating by the light of our flashlights, and other fishes.

The highlight was definitely seeing two octopuses, nah nah nah nah nah nah. And neiner neiner too!
