Lionfish Ceviche!

We woke up with the sunrise and had a casual breakfast on our terrace. Eggs, cinnamon raisin toast, and coffee. Our terrace is nice and private since it is on the third floor. It also has a good view and we were able to see that a second cruise ship came in during the 6 am hour. This is both good and bad news for us.

Traveler’s Menace I & II

We took a water taxi from Eden Beach, which was right near our place, to Klein Bonaire, the little uninhabited island to the West. Since there were two cruise ships here, the water taxi went hourly, instead of every two hours.

We had been told not to go to Klein Bonaire if there were cruise ships, but thankfully it wasn’t actually very busy at all. Guessing the overcast skies and small periods of sprinkles kept people on dry land. Great for us.

Nathan enjoying our Neso Shade Tent on Klein Bonaire

The water taxi doubles as a mini beach bar, so every hour when it arrives you can buy water, soda, or beer for a few bucks. Not a bad idea for a place with no services.

Turtle Swimming

We set up our tent, hung out on the beach, read, and snorkeled for most of the day. We each got to swim with some turtles. Pretty cool to see them doing their thing.

We stayed on the beach until 2:45, hopped the water taxi back to Eden Beach, and went to the bike rental place to turn our Dutch bikes in for a scooter! Initially, the scooter rental lady had given us a brand-new beauty with 71 km on it. Once she had discovered that neither one of us had ever actually driven a scooter before, she downgraded us to an older model. Wah, wah

Tough guy with his scooter

The scooter rental lady gave us a scooter driving 101 tutorial and then had Nathan practice turning and driving the scooter in their parking lot. After a few laps, Nathan scooted off to a back street where I joined him for more practice. Corners are hard with two people. I hope we are up for this.

Traffic!

We scooted back to our room, locked up the scooter with the chain they gave us, then showered and got ready for dinner.

We walked the downtown area and ocean promenade looking at trinkets. Not seeing anything interesting, we headed to dinner.

Lionfish Ceviche at Diver’s Diner

Diver’s Diner was where we were headed tonight. We had been told they had Lionfish Ceviche. And they did. It was only an appetizer so we still both got entrees, but what a fun way to rid the seas of this invasive species.
