I Have Everything You Need For The Beach

Last night, we arrived on Bequia around 5:30. Our little plane ride from Barbados dropped people off at Union Island, then Canouan, then finally us at Bequia. The plane was a 20 seater, with 2 pilots! Maybe that’s why the ticket was so dang expensive.

We got off the plane, cleared immigration, then customs. The whole process took 3 1/2 minutes as we were the only disembarking passengers. We walked out to the awaiting taxi, and away we went, dodging goats, dogs, and cats along the way.

We settled into our little apartment, sans the advertised AC,(!) and then went into town for Eastern Caribbean dollars, provisions, and dinner.

Now, if you know me, like REALLY know me, then you know that the no AC thing is a huge problem. I’m trying not to lose my cool, but this week is gonna be a struggle, I mean, opportunity for growth. Yeah, that’s what it is.

We were able to pull a paltry sum of EC from the ATM. I figured there was an ultra-low limit set per transaction, but when we went back today the thing wouldn’t let me pull out anything, so I think it was out of money. Thank goodness tomorrow is a business day!

Dinner was spent at Mac’s Pizza listening to music and making new friends.

This morning we woke up at 6 – 6:30. Got ready and headed into town for breakfast. The spot I had picked out wasn’t open, I think due to it being Sunday, so we walked the boardwalk towards a hotel with a restaurant. Our friend Andy from the night before joined us and we talked travels.

After breakfast, we hit a few grocery stores (if you can call them that!), and talked with the dive shop. Then walked back to our place to ditch our provisions, make lunch, and head to the beach.

We were delayed slightly by a downpour, but that gave Nathan a chance to talk to the landlord about the AC, what to do with the tp, and our chirping smoke detector. Sandwiches made, downpour stopped and we walked to Princess Margaret beach.

We walked the beach until we found a spot to set up our tent.

Lounging on the beach

The water is a bit rough and churned up, but we both got in.

After the beach, we went home, tried to shower the sand and zinc off, and went to dinner. Night two with live music! Score.
