On Monday we had a few leisurely hours to spend in Panama City before we needed to catch an Uber to the airport. We ate breakfast at the restaurant in our hostel. Then I decided that I needed to head to the Farmacia to get anti-itch skin cream for the flight home. I was hoping for some awesome prescription-strength stuff like I got in Croatia. Instead, I got Caladryl Clear. Maybe it worked…
We also stopped by the coffee shop we had breakfast at yesterday. Coffee numero dos for both and a guayaba (guava) Danish for me. It was heaven. But hot heaven and making my big bites itch…
Now, we’ve encountered guayaba in other countries before. It is the bestest, most wonderful tasting fruit, juice or jam. It is seriously underappreciated in this country, where you’d be hard-pressed to find a guayaba anything anywhere. *sigh*
At 9 am, we checked out of the bumpin’, party happy hostel and caught an Uber to the airport. We arrived in plenty of time, deposited our bags with Copa, and got through security. With loads of time to burn, we walked through the airport, end to end, and did it over again. There were some holiday festivities going on, so we also sat and watched the singing and dancing.
Passengers leaving from Panama City headed to the US need to be rescreened in order to get into the gate area. In all of our travels, I think we’ve only experienced this here in Panama. What it means is, roughly an hour before boarding, you need to be rescreened, and held in a small, fenced-in area to wait for your flight. Hope you went to the bathroom, cause once you’re in, you’re in.
Our flight home was uneventful, and we landed at home in Denver a little before 4 pm. A shout out to Copa for the easy Denver to Panama City flight they started a few years ago. It means easy access to the Caribbean and South America for us straight from Colorado. Houston, you can suck it!
The workweek went ok for us. We woke up at 4 am on Tuesday, and I gave up and went to work early.
Wednesday evening we bought a Christmas tree and decorated for the holidays. In the middle of the whole ‘is the tree straight’? debate, Nathan’s phone rang. We ignored it, what with all four hands on the tree at the time, and let the call go to voicemail. It was Fibs trainer. Crap! Why is she calling?
I don’t believe I’ve really explained this before, but Fibs has been in an intensive board & train since November 8th. He was having issues with on-leash reactivity, especially with big dogs. So, he has been in the custody of this trainer for 4 weeks, and we have had no contact with him.
Hmmm. Why is the trainer calling? She is supposed to give our baby back in two days on Friday.
Well, we found out on Thursday that he was doing well, but hadn’t quite made the progress that she had hoped, so she wanted to keep him for another two weeks until 12/20. Ugh! Being a good pet parent is SOOO hard! I just want my fur baby back!
Nathan is a little more even keel on this type of stuff. I’m more emotional. So I said Nathan, I am not staying home this weekend without the dog. We’re going skiing.
So with about 24 hours of advance notice, we gathered two more weeks of food and meds for Fibs, packed our suitcases with our ski gear, and headed to our little ski apartment in Edwards.
Today was our first day skiing for the season.
