We woke up to a beautiful, sunny day. The plan was for Phil to take Alice fishing in the morning, but 10 year old little girls do not always get up in time for Grandpa’s fishing excursions. So instead, Phil and Deb went to church, Donna and Dennis went to the pool and Nathan and I got ready to walk to the beach.
We checked in with Donna and Dennis as we walked out of the complex, and set off to Arnolds Park Public Beach. The walk was quite short and in about 20 minutes we were there.
Hmmm. This was not at all how I had pictured it. There is a small piece of sand, and a rather small swimming area, but it doesn’t look like the pictures I saw online at all.
We set up our tent, and Nathan proceeded to get in the water. I googled the local beaches, because the beach I tried to get us to had sand volleyball courts and this area was way too small for that. Turns out, I intended to get us to Arnolds Park Amusement Park Public Beach. Who knew?
Since the amusement park was where the rest of the family was headed, we decided to pack up our tent and all our belongings and walk over to that beach.
Once at the amusement park beach, we hung out, read our books, & swam.
We had a 3 pm date for a pontoon, so by early afternoon we packed up and walked home.
We all drove to the marina to pick up our pontoon, and after a short instructional session with Heath from the Marina, Captain Dennis was giving us the grand water tour of East Lake Okoboji.
We got to swim a little off the pontoon, but it was a little overcast and the water was quite weedy. After two hours of on-the-lake fun, we turned in our boat, came home and had steaks, potatoes and corn on the grill.
Before dark, a bunch of us walked down towards the resort near us to watch the sun set. We capped off the night with some anniversary cake, a fire and marshmallows.
