My Hip is in a Corn Hole

Today we got up to sunny skies again. After breakfast, Donna, Nathan & and I walked down to the public beach for a little swim before Donna needed to see a client at 11. We decided to come back after lunch and rent paddleboards and kickboards and whatever fun toys struck our fancy.

Alice and her sunfish

While we were gone, Phil and Dennis took Alice fishing off a nearby dock. The first fish she caught was a little sunfish. The second fish was so big that it was able to swim under the dock and get itself all wrapped up under the dock. While Phil was trying to free it and claim victory over the fish, the line snapped and a fish tale was made.

A large homemade lunch with burgers on the grill, leftover salad, chips and beans was whipped up so that Christina and the kids could head back to Sioux Falls while it was still light out.

Once Christina & the kids left, Donna, Dennis, Nathan & I walked in the hot, hot sun to get to the public beach again. Donna rented a paddleboard and promptly the weather turned on us. The skies grew dark and ominous and the wind picked up. Donna, Nathan and I continued to play in the water while Dennis opted to take in the local culture at a nearby dive bar.

It started to sprinkle on us, and thunder and lightening, so Donna decided to turn in the paddleboard early. All of a sudden we were in a downpour. The three of us hunkered down in an underpass and waited for the storm to pass. It became quite clear that the storm was not going to pass, and the underpass began to fill with rushing water, so we texted Phil and Deb to come get us with the car.

Turns out that Phil and Deb were with Dennis at The Ritz, so we covered our heads with our towels and ran like heck in the rain to get over there.

Jammed into the car

Everyone had a drink at The Ritz, and then we wedged all six of us into Phil’s Enclave. We came back to the house, cleaned ourselves up for dinner, and Phil and Deb packed up before we headed out for dinner.
