I carried a watermelon.

Today was the most Dirty Dancing-est of days. It was rainy and overcast. We had no plans, other than to pay our bread bill from yesterday since Denisse said there’d be no diving. So, after breakfast, while it was overcast but dry, we set off for West End to buy groceries and settle up.

As there’s no Western-style grocery store in West End, the errands were to pop into each convenience store or bodega to see if they had something that could be crossed off the list. The final stop was the produce stand, and once we had our purchases, we headed back to Turtle Beach.

We managed to come back home with 15 eggs, none broken, two cartons of juice, a six-pack of beer, 3 ginger ales, cheese, ham, a chocolate bar, coffee, a bottle of wine, and a bottle of rum, a pineapple, and a watermelon! (I carried a watermelon!)

Our purchases

By the time we got home and put our purchases away, it was lunchtime. So we made lunch with the intention to carry it to the upper deck, but by then it was raining. So we ate in our covered porch.

To quote my undergrad biology professor, Dr I forget his name, this is an aside. Now, we travel in the developing world often enough to sorta roll with the punches. Power out, no problem. No hot water, ok. I mean not ideal, but we can deal. But the internet on this trip, dear God, how do you live?!

We spent the rest of the afternoon struggling under the lackluster internet conditions. Ok, so I’m being melodramatic, we actually relaxed with coffee and read.

At about 3, the rain had stopped, and we took our books to the palapa.

At 5 pm, we sauntered up to the kitchen, chatted with Rafa, Jodi, and Rosa for a minute, and headed to dinner. We are now at a rather pricy restaurant, but it’s very close to Turtle Beach, enjoying small plates of seafood, and creating a market for lionfish hunting. And to complete the Dirty Dancing day, they are playing 80s music…or is that 60s music?
