Pescado?

Today was our last full day here in Roatán. Tomorrow we fly home. We are now settled back into the Monkey Lair, and last night with earplugs and eye mask, I slept great. I was aware of a rainstorm and power outage, though.

We got up at 6 am, and it was pretty overcast and threatening. (Did I mention the great view out of the Monkey Lair?) So we prepped for the day, fixed breakfast, and readied ourselves. I have to admit – I did wash my face, but again, I think it’s been a few days since I put on deodorant.

At 8:15, we set out for the dive shop. Denzel and Yvonne were getting everyone’s gear ready, and when the other party arrived, we jumped in the boat. The other group is a family from Boulder/Louisville, and one of their kids, Max is 12 or so. It’s their last day as well, so Max arrived with pictures he colored for Denzel and Denisse. He was pretty torn up about leaving, and the tears were flowing while they shared hugs.

Today’s dive was The Point, which is where we were supposed to go yesterday. It was a wall, and a drift dive as well. We immediately descended to 40 feet, and although it’s not a race, Nathan is making a big to-do about me descending faster than him. 18 dives in, and I had no problems equalizing.

We saw big groupers and snappers, a barracuda, a resting green moray eel, crabs, a jawfish, and I did it all without holding Denzel’s hand. Once we were all back on the boat, our Captain, Wilmar let Max drive the boat.

Back on shore, we filled out our dive logs, paid the dive shop, and said our goodbyes to Denzel and Denisse.

Nathan, Denzel, and I

We went back to Turtle Beach, packed our beach bags, and walked towards West Bay. We set up our tent in front of the Grand Roatán, as usual, and ate our sandwiches. Nathan was convinced rain was coming, so we prepared, just in case. He snorkeled, and I sat on the beach. It got pretty cloudy and windy, so I lowered the tent and got in the water to watch it.

Nathan found a tiny conch!

We stayed in the water quite a while, but the waves were getting more and more threatening to our tent and belongings, so after a few wet laps at our stuff, we packed it all up and had happy hour at the Grand Roatán.

A hot caldron of wonderful

Around 4, we started the walk back to Turtle Beach. Now showered, sans deodorant, we are back at the Grand Roatán having our last dinner here.
