I saw one!

We had dinner last night at Mister Buddha, the local sushi restaurant. I’m like a vegetarian who also eats bacon…I don’t eat sushi or sashimi, but I bend the rules for raw oysters. We had scoped the menu out beforehand, so we knew they had plenty of cooked sushi rolls, and also pad thai and the like, so we gave it a try. It was delicious. We shared the lionfish ceviche and I had a tempura fried shrimp roll. Nathan had the invasor roll, also with lionfish.

Today we woke up to sun and island breezes. We hung out on our porch, enjoyed coffee and breakfast, with no concrete plans. Do we stay here or do we take the water taxi to Neptune’s to snorkel?

The morning view

Staying home required less effort, and snorkeling from our beach has been really superb, so we suncreened and headed for the water.

Trunkfish

We were out for nearly 2 hours, and saw a ton of stuff. Anemones, rays, a nurse shark, sea cucumbers, cowfish, a whole family of squid, lionfish, and a big barracuda.

At about 12:40, we came in for lunch, which we enjoyed on our breezy porch.

Afternoon chores

Nathan raked our beach for a bit, but for the most part we had a lazy afternoon. I walked to the store for some snacks, and Angel came by to exchange out our water jug. A neighborhood dog came by for a visit.

When Angel came by the second time with the full water jug, he caught us looking at the neighboring property which is for sale. Did we want to buy it? We chatted with him about snorkeling in front of the house and Nathan asked him about seeing eagle rays. It was pretty windy and the water is rough, and Angel said that now would be a good time to spot one because all the fishes swim closer in when its rough.

And wouldn’t you know, Nathan went out in that choppy cloudy water and saw one.
