You ever seen a floating fridge?!

We signed up for a two tank dive this morning. We had no idea who else was going, so it was a bit of a leap of faith. We hopped out of our prearranged tuk tuk and started readying the boat and our gear.

Good morning sun.

Miriam had an open water student, so we went with Dewey and Michelle. The water was pretty still, so Dewey suggested we go for a 30 minute boat ride to The Maze.

Free range floating fridge

Along the way, we spotted a fridge floating out in the open water with no doors on it. We towed it for a while, but it was not possible to either bring it on board or tow it back, so after a bit, we set it free.

A face only a mother could love

The boat ride was a little rough, and I was feeling a bit uneasy as we jumped into the water. After a few calming breaths at the surface, I was ready to descend and HOLY HELL I’M EXPLODING!

Turns out, the o ring on my tank failed, and it was back on the boat for me to switch it out.

A few more calming breaths on the boat and on the surface, and now we were finally ready to dive.

Trigger fish

The Maze was just as it sounds. A grid pattern of coral pathways that we floated along and took in the sights as we went.

We also saw a school of huge snappers, a free swimming moray eel, triggerfish, and a southern stingray.

One of many drums

We passed by the floating fridge again on the way to the second dive site, Rocky Point.

The diving is getting easier and I told Dewey so before we got into the water. I’m still not great if I need to be still under water, but my breathing is calmer. I think I’m headed in the right direction.

Remora looking for a new buddy

Once back on dry land, we walked home, making a quick detour at the bakery for a piece of snack cake. Two dive mornings are hard work, and by the time we get home, we’re famished.

At home, we made our sandwiches and relaxed on the porch. The sea is all turned up and weird today, and we have a lot of loose sea grass now where we used to have a nice, sandy patch. I sat in the shallow water reading until I got splashed in the face and my book got all dripping wet. Nathan snoozed in the hammock for a bit. We attempted to snorkel, but the visibility was terrible, so swinging on the porch won out.

We have another two tank dive tomorrow and then we are done diving for this trip.
