Today, we still did not get up with the chickens, but both of us were up by 7 am. We organized our place, and by we, I mean, Nathan organized. He also made coffee. So we enjoyed coffee and tried to wake up.
Nathan said it rained overnight, but I saw no evidence of this. I also didn’t look for evidence, so there you go. We enjoyed our coffee, slowly packed our beach bags and Nathan fixed us eggs and toast.
Sometime around 9 am we set off for the beach, walking along the left hand side of the road so that we could get picked up by the mini bus. Within minutes, one stopped for us, we told the conductor Grand Anse Beach, and away we went. Or so we thought.
Today’s mini bus was outfitted with screens. The screen at the console and on both sun visors, showing a DJ mixing music, and yet another screen showing the front and back camera displays. So, a party bus indeed. The music was bumpin’ and we were driving like we stole it for a few minutes, all the while gesturing and tooting at pedestrians and other car traffic.
We got near the roundabout to go towards Grand Anse, and the traffic was at a stand still, with the police directing cars away from the road to the beach. Gesturing ensued. We headed quite a ways in the wrongish direction, until we were able to head back towards the water. At some point the conductor turned and talked to me and I had absolutely no idea what he said. So I just reiterated that we wanted to go to Grand Anse Beach, and they pulled over and let us out with more gesturing. Thankfully, we had been to that beach before, so we both knew where we were and what it looked like.
Once we got to the beach we headed straight for Dive Grenada. We stopped in to book our dives and the woman manning the counter said she had room for us…on Friday.
Wait, what? Yep, all booked up for morning two tank dives until Friday. We can get an afternoon dive on Thanksgiving, but that’s it. We talked to her for a while, and got everything sorted and booked. Her husband was also stuck in the bumper-to-bumper traffic and she said it was some sort of Israel or Palestinian support rally. We never got close to the thing, so I really have no idea what the cause was. Regardless, we have the next couple days to relax on the beach or do other tours before diving.
The remainder of the day we spent on the beach in front of the dive shop. We set up our shade tent and took turns swimming and snorkeling in the water. The water is a beautiful blue and the sand is nice and white, but there is nothing really happening from a coral or fish perspective right at this spot.
But it sure is hot. So we just enjoyed the scenery, the sun, water, and our books, and spent the remainder of the day relaxing. There is a beach bar right next door, so we had a drink mid afternoon, before taking a final dip in the water and packing it all up for the walk back home.
Once home, we showered, and headed out to a second container park near the college campus for dinner.
