Are We Ready?

I honestly have no idea. I hope so.

We’ve done this so many times by now we’re either old pros who can’t mess up a thing (and can roll with the punches!) or lackadaisical and making stupid mistakes. Either way, we’ve got precisely 10 days and 0 hours to figure it out and get it corrected.

We’ve been on two hikes to get our bodies acclimated. Not a lot, but hopefully we didn’t lose too much fitness over the ski season and subsequent down time… Nathan was on crutches and non-weight bearing for 6 weeks. Now, Nathan’s been off crutches for a whooping 18 days.

I can go back and look at all of our previous trips and I’m pretty sure this is our longest trip. It will be our longest hike, at least from a mileage perspective. The TMB was 110 miles over 11 hiking days. The Lechweg was 7 hiking days and 77 miles.

The Juliana Trail is 16 days and 165 miles, so we’ve decided to pare it down to Stages 5 – Stage 13, or 9 hiking days, with some add on hikes, (because why not, hello, waterfalls!) and our distance should be something like 125 miles.

Well, we are excited for this adventure and break from the every day. We’ve arranged a wide variety of adventures: Gorges, waterfalls, farm stays, cityscapes and beach time. Jet-laggy, day 1 train adventures? Yeah, that too.

Will we see bears? I hope so. Snakes? I hope not! Cows, goats and sheep with bells? Maybe. Is Slovenia known for this? No idea. Squeaky cheese? Pretty please!
