Stage 12 of the Juliana Trail

Tolmin to Kobarid ~ 32,000 Steps

I woke up feeling quite refreshed at 6 am after the best night of sleep here at Pri Kafolu that I’ve had in weeks. Possibly months. My Fitbit said I got a 92, and that is the highest score either of us ever get.

The clear Tolminka and cloudy Soca Rivers Meet

Nathan was still snoring away at 6, which never happens, so I gently woke him. I went downstairs to find our basket of freshly laundered clothes, and we got ready for the day.

Breakfast was served at 7 am, and it was all locally grown or produced. Fried eggs, yogurt with granola and fruit, bread, meats and cheese, plus coffee and juice. It was a wonderful way to start the day; good sleep, fresh food, and clean clothes.

We settled the bill, and looked at the map to get back on the trail. By 8:30, we were on our way, hiking back to Tolmin and on our way to Kobarid.

Gravel Walk
Sunny Day

Today’s trek was supposed to be pretty flat, around 10 or 11 miles, but mostly on paved roads. The trail through Tolmin and its outskirts was right along the Soca River. Still beautiful even with the rainfall run off.

Pavement Walk

We passed pastures, campgrounds, and little villages. Since its Saturday, and we’re walking along cycling routes, we get passed by many road cyclists.

Sheep

We stop to rest in a little village at 11 am and have a snack.

More Pavement

At 12:30, we come across a church, and stop to have our lunches. We are both feeling pretty beat up, and resting with the sandwiches we made from our leftover breakfast spread really hit the spot.

Moss and Ivy

Before we left our lunch spot, I looked at our various map apps. It’s either 3 km or 3 miles to get to tonight’s lodging, and I choose to believe its 3 km.

Soca Again

We go through two more villages, past a quarry, and across the Napoleon Bridge over the Soca River.

We arrived at Apartma Masera at 2:15, but my body says its 5 pm. My feet hurt, like a lot. We’re both tired, and maybe cranky. Tomorrow is a big day, like really big, and I’m hoping that walking on forest paths will be better than the pavement we’ve been on today.
