Male in the Bathroom!

Friday November 21, 2025

Such was the story of my week. At some point during July, we decided to renovate our only bathroom. It was a big decision, a big hit to the pocketbook, and an even bigger inconvenience.

Fully Committed

So, the demolition of our only bathroom commenced last week, and I’ve been ‘suffering’ through workdays, home with the dog, and no bathroom. Through the demo noise, and dog’s annoyance, I kept a positive attitude.

Our neighbors have been truly wonderful through this process. (I’m looking at you, Nancy!) We have our pick of 7 or 8 households who have freely offered up their bathrooms to Nathan and I during this process. I joked that we should have made Neighbor Bathroom Bingo Cards. (I’m up to 5!)

Our Palace

My steely reserve started to crack on Thursday. The insulation crew was late, which delayed our bougie tile genius. The bougie tile genius even has the gall to take DAYS OFF over Thanksgiving. The nerve! On top of that, Nathan was home working and struggling with download speeds via the server, and generally being a cranky puss. My anxiety shot up. The last straw was Nathan saying he needed to take the work laptop on vacation. No sir.

Crisis averted when we left the laptop at home, and the new airport shuttle guy came right on time.

We sailed through TSA, after stumbling a bit trying to find where they’ve stuffed the Copa airlines counter, but Precheck line was still open, so we were golden.

Our Terrace

Had a yummy DIA dinner, before quickly using the loo, with said male encroachment. Looking for a blue phone was his excuse…I mean he was in uniform, I assume it was ok.

Communal Area and Pool #1

Both Copa flights were uneventful, but a little turbulent, and we arrived in Curacao at 12:30 their time. Minor hiccup trying to find our cab, but once we located him, we were deposited to our hotel with no issues.

Colorful Hotels

We’re in the Pietermaai neighborhood of Willemstad, and we’ve already found the working ATM and a few bodega-style grocery stores. I’ve showered (without asking anyone!) but that was mostly to determine the nature of these little red bumps that showed up on my skin.

Relaxing at Last

My stupid sensitive skin. Does anyone know what measles looks like?
