May I Make a Suggestion?

Last night we had a lovely dinner at a Mexican inspired taco restaurant just a few doors down from our hotel. Nathan had a spicy marg, and I had a passion fruit marg, and we were both in heaven. Nathan might have said some disparaging words about margaritas in Colorado, but overall we had a lovely dinner.

Spicy & Passion fruit Margs

We slept for 9 hours each (9 hours!), and woke up at 7 am. We didn’t really have a plan for the day, but we were entertaining some silly ways to get to a larger grocery store. In the end, we went across the street to the dive shop to say hi, and we decided to make do with what we had nearby.

Our Terrace

The gal at the dive shop suggested that we take a taxi to one of two different beaches, so that is what we did. A quick Google suggested that Playa Porto Mari had beach pigs, so of course that is where we went.

First though, I ran back to the ATM and close grocery store while Nathan slowly packed up his beach backpack. I may have been hit on next to the peanuts, (You are so beautiful!) or he was just friendly and spoke his mind, but I grabbed a snack or two, some questionable salami for our lunch, and made a beeline back to the hotel.

Our Bought and Paid for Loungers

Back at the room, I summoned the taxi, and within a minute we were scooped up and headed to Playa Porto Mari beach.

Mr Iguana

On the way there, we saw pink flamingos, and as the taxi dropped us off, indeed, there was a mama pig and two piglets right at the entrance to the beach!

We walked into the beach, and unfortunately it’s a pay-to-play set up. We paid to enter, and quickly found out we wouldn’t be allowed to set up our beach tent, so we went back and paid for beach loungers.

Once we selected some shady loungers, I hit the water for some snorkeling. My goal was octopus, which I didn’t see, but I did see parrotfish, French Angelfish, Sargent majors, squirrelfish, cowfish, porcupine fish, boxfish, trunkfish, and a grey and white spotted eel.

I got out of the water at about noon, and passed the torch to Nathan so he could snorkel.

Crystal Clear Water

The beach had its own wildlife. Behind our beach chairs, a rather food aggressive iguana laid in wait, startling more than a few unsuspecting beach goers. I also saw a pelican, some little birds with mohawks, and other, smaller lizards.

We took turns snorkeling, and by 3:30 we were done in the water. I summoned a cab to take us home, and we were deposited at the hotel around 4:55.

I did see a goat on the way home, so our tally for today is, 1 goat, 3 Iguanas, 5 pigs and piglets, numerous pink flamingos, beach dogs, 2 birds with mohawks, a pelican, numerous smaller lizards, and thousands of fish.

PS – Its not measles. I took a shower, and the bumpy red rash went away.
